It was a welcome relief to experience the break of the three-year drought and dry summer of 2021. Despite the slow start for rain to fall in winter it quickly built up to well above average rainfall. Spring continued to provide promise with above average falls.

The start of the growing season was off to a brilliant start but a freak hailstorm event on 28th October, that impacted vineyards in central Barossa, was a huge set back on yields. Despite this natural yield adjustment, the quality was unimpacted and the growing season and ripening period continued to support great flavour development and tannin maturity.

Overall, the conditions were ideal for producing elegant wines, well poised and worthy of ageing.

    • Winemaking

      41% Grenache, 30% Shiraz, 29% Mourvèdre

All parcels were picked at optimal ripeness. Most of the fruit was crushed into concrete fermenters, with a couple of parcels fermented on stalks and whole bunch. Pumped over twice daily and fermented cooler for aromatics retention, once dry the individual components of the blend were pressed to tank for MLF. Racked to the cellar in terracotta and seasoned puncheons, the wines were then blended in winter and aged for a further 6 months in Foudre. Filtered and bottled.

Best paired with “Elements” by Ludovico Einaudi

    • Tasting Notes

Deep crimson colour. The nose is explosive and packed with forest fruits, blueberry, raspberry, mulberry, cherry, plum… vibrant and refreshing. Spice plays an equally important role, with cacao, dried herbs, and lavender to give a touch of savouriness.

The palate shows the same vibrant nature but with a higher degree of elegance and softness. The array of flavours is well poised and in great balance. Fruit sweetness and savoury structure complement one another, with a seductive generosity tamed by precise acidity and plenty of texture.

An energising wine. Drink now (possible decanted) or cellar away. Pair with anything charred.
