It was a welcome relief to experience the break of the three-year drought and dry summer of 2021. Despite the slow start for rain to fall in winter it quickly built up to well above average rainfall. Spring continued to provide promise with above average falls.

The start of the growing season was off to a brilliant start but a freak hailstorm event on 28th October, that impacted vineyards in central Barossa, was a huge set back on yields. Despite this natural yield adjustment, the quality was unimpacted and the growing season and ripening period continued to support great flavour development and tannin maturity.

Overall, the conditions were ideal for producing elegant wines, well poised and worthy of ageing.

    • Winemaking

From distinct Grenache blocks hand-picked at different times to create layers and complexity right from the vineyard. Hand-picked at different ripeness levels, the parcels were crushed and fermented in open vats, concrete and stainless steel, some on lignified stalks. Manual punch downs and pump overs to manage the cap. Pressed to tank for MLF, then racked to the cellar, in amphorae. Blended in winter, it aged for a further 8 months in terracotta with regular bâtonnage, before being filtered and bottled.

    • Tasting Notes

      Translucent ruby colour, incredibly vibrant.

On the nose it is elegant and perfumed, with notes of violet, dried rose petals, cherry, and clay. The core of red fruit carries the bouquet, but the beauty is in the supporting layers of herbal, floral and spiced nuances.

The palate is beautifully fresh and lively. The fruit is ripe, rich, and red-toned, with a balanced acidity to keep this wine dancing on the tongue. The secondary notes of spice marge with the velvety structure to create a complex, elegant, and lingering finish.

Stunning already, this wine can be enjoyed young, by itself or paired with white and red meats; or it can be cellared for years.
