- Vintage Notes
With four months of above average rainfall, no frost nor hapil, spring was off to a great start. However, the saturated soils and cooler weather gave rise to slow shoot growth and heighten disease pressures.
By flowering there was a high incident of Downy Mildew throughout the Valley and most of the hills. Fortunately, the disease moved in early and compromised bunches and leaf were lost to necrosis.
In December the season was on track with mild ripening weather and dry conditions. This did lead to a two to three week later than average harvest meaning many wines had much lower sugar ripeness and were somewhat riper in tannin with flavours more unique to a cooler vintage.
- Winemaking
The fruit was picked fresh, in the early hours. A small percentage of Mourvèdre was added for complexity and freshness. Pressed and fermented slowly, at cold temperature. Racked post primary fermentation and left on fine lees for five months, with occasional stirring. Racked, filtered, bottled.
- Tasting Notes
A light salmon colour with golden hues. Delightfully aromatic with intense mineral notes of chalk and sea breeze to complement the floral, citrusy, and tropical tones. Spring in a glass, incredibly vibrant and perfumed.
The palate is surprisingly textural, with fine stalk tanning and a soft creaminess from sur-lie aging. The matrix of flavours cust through these layers of texture with extreme freshness. Hints of orange blossom, peach, raspberry, and lime peel, subtly herbaceous and savoury, super refreshing.
Too versatile to give you an ideal food pairing, you just can't go wrong!
